I offer my prostrations to all Vaisnavas. And I offer my respects to this audience who are anxious to hear about the devotion for Lord Krishna. We have never any occasion to visit your country and it is by the grace of our late revered AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaj who has spread the devotional nectar to all of you. And he made all the westerners drinking that nectar. Immortal. All of you have become immortal. And now to repeat his sayings and the sayings of the Vaisnavas we have come to your place.

Human life is considered to be valuable. After so many lives, 84 lacks of lives we could now get the human life. In this human life we can know anything and everything. Now in the westerns countries they are more advanced in material science, but there is a lack of spiritual science. To know and to realize...

Hare Krishna! Please don't smoke here! Without smoke you keep sited.

Now this place where we have come, I think it is a good place where people seem to be obedient and well versed in this science of morality.

Human life is not meant for sleeping, eating, drinking and sex enjoyment. It is only to know something more, something extraordinary. That which we could not realize in our past lives. In this life we must not spend even one minute without realizing or without hearing or without discussing about that truth, real truth, Absolute truth. Truth. Absolute truth. You have not heard the word Absolute truth. What is truth? What is truth? Truth has no past sense. Truth has no future sense. Truth is eternal. Truth is omniscient. Truth is omnipresent. So that truth you must know. All of you.

Now we have come to appeal to you and make you realize that truth by the association of the sadhus or the devotees or beloved servants of the Supreme Lord Krishna. Unless we come in association of sadhus we are atheists. We never believe God. There is a God who is the creator, who is the protector and who is the destroyer. And he should be realized. His blessings should be recognized. And the opulence of this material world, we see in this world, is due to Him. Now we should know him. We should realize him.

How can you realize? There are no schools and colleges or universities where this subject is being taught. They teach history, geography, science and chemistry, botany and all the subjects of material world. But the spiritual science nobody teaches you. Now you must hear that spiritual science from a pure bonafide sadhu or a religious teacher, or a spiritual master, or - you call it a Guru.

If we are so fortunate then our days, or in future we are going to the transcendental world and we are nearing that transcendental world, then only sadhus or the religious devotional teachers come to us. Sadhus have no other business. They don't want anything of the material objects. They don't want wealth. They don't want anything to enjoy. Only to teach the fallen souls who are fallen, who are in a dark fallen cave, who are in the jail or a prison. Now to relieve them from the prison they come to you. It is their mercy. The Lord has sent them to you to teach you what you should do and how can you achieve the gem or the nectar, the ambrosia - how can you have it.

You can hear the word nectar, but have you seen nectar? No.

Now to make you understand you should hear about the nectar and the procedure to know that nectar - the practice that we have to do with all sincerity and with strong faith. That will be taught by sadhus. So you must be very careful - today is a Sunday and you have got rest and today is selected for your benefit and now you are sitting here. This place is also: some religious or spiritual benefit is there. And this land must have done some penance to see the sadhus come and preach about the Lord. Did you ever see sadhus coming, and sitting here and doing bhajan? Or repeating the glories of the Lord? Never have you seen. Never have you seen.

And today is purnima, Jyeshta purnima. Tomorrow is Snana purnima of Lord Jagannath, Subhadra and Baladeva at Puri. You must have heard the name of Jagannath. Very big murties - Jagannath, Baladeva and Subhadra - they will take bath. Millions of people will come and stand around. And there will be a place, level place, above level and there they will pour water of all the sacred places, sacred rivers - the water will fall upon them.

Now today we must discuss what we have to do. What is that? What shall we do? Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has asked us:

trinad api sunicena taror api sahisnuna
amanina manadena kirtaniya sada harih

In Kali yuga. This is Kali-yuga. The simplest way and the surest way to attain the summum bonum is Nama-sankirtan. Repeat Nama-sankirtan. Always repeat Nama-sankirtan. What is that nama-sankirtan?

harer nama harer nama harer namaiva kevalam
kalau nasty eva nasty eva nasty eva gatir anyatha

In Kali yugam the only process is to repeat the divine name

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

You all should repeat loudly. You have got life. You have got life. You have got mouth. You have got tongue. What is the utilization of that tongue unless it repeats namam? For what purpose have the Lord given you the tongue? What for? Why? Why have you got the tongue? You must utilize the tongue repeating his namam. There are no restrictions. There is no physical strain. There is no - anything ritual. And no money is required. No physical strength is required. The tongue throughout the day it talks, moves - it is not tired. Mouth is tired, but tongue is not tired. And that tongue you should utilize in singing the glories of the Lord Krishna.

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

Why? Why? In Kali yuga hari-nama kirtana is the only process. In prior yuga, Dvapara-yuga, process was to do arcana, puja of the Lord. And in treta-yuga it was performing sacrifices like aswamedha and other yagnas. And in Satya-yuga meditation. Now you cannot perform meditation. You cannot fast. An ekadasi day fasting is a problem to you. Meditation means you must sit. He must not move his eyes. Or all the limbs must be like a figure. Like a figure you must be. And do pranayama. Pranayama. And like this he has to practice. But in this yuga our life is food. If we never take food we will die. In Satya-yuga people never die, though they fast. But in this yuga food is your life. If you stop food you will die. What penance can you do? In Kali-yuga the only way to attain the sublime stage, the pure devotion is with Nama-sankirtan.

And who does Nama-sankirtan? You can show. So many people are there. They are doing Nama-sankirtan. Could they realize any benefit? May not, because there are offences. There are rules and regulations. They are not following it strictly. If they follow it strictly then definitely they will get the result. They will get it.

Now you see, this Nama-sankirtan - what are the formalities? All the rules and regulations? Four.

One is one must be humbler than the blade of grass. You see this is the grass. The grass is lying under our feet. We will be moving on it. Not only men but beasts and birds or insects. All. It is humbler. If it rises its head then beast will come and eat it away or the (inaudable) will cut it. Yet the grass will be there - so our life also should be worthless than a grass. A grass is somewhat - if it is grown if you cut it, you preserve it, bind it, you will sell it, you get money. But the grass is there always - so you must be humbler than the blade of grass. If anybody beats you, anybody mocks at you, anybody scandalizes you, or chastises you or he does harm to you, you must not retaliate. You must not take revenge. You must endure it.

And then tolerance like a tree.

This tree - how it helps us? It always helps us. Now we are sitting under the shade of a tree. We are happy. We cannot sit out. So in a hard sun we sit under the shade of a tree. That is why they have planted trees, so that people can sit and enjoy. It gives you leaves. It gives you the bark. It gives you the root. It gives you the stick or wood. You prepare all your furnitures, your doors or your windows, verandas, everything - furniture you prepare. The fruit you eat. All the fruit and all the flowers you enjoy. It is always there to serve you all. But though you cut it, while you're cutting it with a saw or an axe it will be giving you a shade. You stand under the shade of a tree and cut it.

Can you do that? If anybody comes and wants to cut your arm do you accept? No. No. If they cut one branch, and want to cut another branch - the tree says:

"Yes."

The tolerance from a tree we have to learn. The tree may die but it will never beg you water. "I am dying. Give water." No. But whenever you want anything from the tree it never rejects you and gives you.

Your life also must be tamed in that way.

And amani, manada. Amani.

You must not demand respect from others. “All should worship you. All should praise you. All should give you respect.” No. Don't demand respect from anybody. If they do respect - well and good. If not - who cares?

But we should in return pay respect to all. Why? The Lord is dwelling in all of your hearts.

isvara sarva-bhutanam hrd-dese arjuna tistahati
bhramayan sarva-bhutani yantrarudhani mayaya

Now we are experiencing - the Lord is there in the heart of all the creatures. Not only men, but even birds and beasts and even the tree also. There is life in the tree also. Unless how the tree would grow? A creeper, a grass it has a life. So everywhere the Lord dwells. He is all-pervading. He is God. That God we must realize through the grass root. From the grass root we have to be educated and we should be taught about the existence of the Lord. The Lord is there. The God is there.

Because atma is there in you - now you are listening. He is in me - I speak. But when the God leaves this body will you speak? Will you hear? No. Why? The life has gone. What is that life? That life is God. Can you see that life? No. You cannot see. But you feel it. The God was there - then you used to enjoy, you ran, you danced, you sang. The moment it deserts you - helpless. You are then a dead body. You are dead. Now you have no power to talk. If your children ask you: "Father! Father!" No father. No father. No mother. Nobody will respond. That you should know.

And that God is not only all-pervading. He is all-powerful. He is omniscient. All-knowledge. And he is all-bliss. That bliss we enjoy. The football players they enjoy – searching ball, running. They enjoy. Why? Why? Because the Lord is there, in inside.

Now our conception, our science, material science cannot reach that place. Only the spiritual science can make you realize the existence of the Supreme Lord. That spiritual science can be obtained when you surrender to a realized spiritual teacher. You can learn from him. He will teach you from the grass root. How you have to do. What you have to eat. How you should behave. How you should talk.

It is told in a Gita in the 2nd chapter.

sthita pragya laksana

What is sthita pragya laksana?

(inaudible)

How he talks? How he sits? How he behaves? How he does anything. Everything is regulated by the Lord. And he with full spiritual consciousness he does.

Now we should have that spiritual consciousness. We are having now material consciousness. By material consciousness we realize that "I am a boy" or "I am a youth" or "I am a strong man" or "I am a wealthy man" or "I am an intelligent man" or "I am a scholar" or "I am a professor". These are the material sides. The consideration is with these material bodies. But beyond the material body there is a spiritual body that cannot be seen by you. The happiness you rejoice now. How? By drinking beer, by drinking wine, alcohol. All varieties of alcohol we drink. We spend. What is the result? We forget ourself. Our consciousness we lose. We speak as we like. We do as we like. And that is the benefit of the intoxication. That we realize.

The same intoxication is by repeating namam.

hari-rasa-madira-madatimatta bhuvi-viluthama-natama nirvisamah

One gentleman asked: "What is the efficacy of repeating namam?"

The efficacy is... What is the efficacy of drinking wine? And drinking beer? Why people sit there and drink? Always they drink. The bar is there. Why they drink?

They must be benefited. They have got some attraction towards this intoxication. They want to be happy. But more happiness than in this intoxication you can have by repeating the Namam. If you repeat the divine name Hare Krishna, the most powerful divine name. It has so much power. The word has power. It is a personal Krishna. That Krishna will attract all the jivas. The sound Krishna will attract all the jivas. Human bodies and beasts and dogs and cats and lions and tigers and goats or deer and all the birds - the sound attracts. How?

For example. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu when he was traveling to Vrindavan through Jharikanda. There is a forest on the way. All full of forest. How much forest? More than 1500 kilometers of forest. Thick forest. In that thick forest he was uttering:

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

While he was marching there were no human beings. All forest, all trees. When he says: "Hare Krishna!" the trees - they repeat. "Hare Krishna." You know that? When you are in thick forest if you go and utter any sound "Hare Krishna!" the trees will repeat "Hare Krishna." So all the trees if they repeat "Hare Krishna!" there will be great sound. Hearing this sound all the beasts of the forest, the birds of the forest, the lions, the tigers, the boar and all the deers and elephants they thought: "Wherefrom is it coming?" It has got attraction like a magnet. Hearing these words, they all approached. All of them approached Mahaprabhu. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. They all are standing out and they all are also dancing. The tiger is dancing with his back legs and his front two legs he raises and according to theirs tiger language they show their bliss, the happiness to hear or to repeat. They dance. They replied. The elephants which are taking bath, to drink water in the lake they come, and when they hear they also come to Mahaprabhu. Mahaprabhu throws water: "Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare." Then elephants with their trunks, they uphold. And they also began to dance.

Such is the influence - a deer and a tiger both they combine and go to bhajan. If a tiger sees a deer immediately it will serve(eat) it but now they forgot that enmity. The tiger never thinks that it is my food. And the deer is not afraid of this coming to a tiger. And the deer kisses, kissing the tiger. Mahaprabhu saw this picture as very fine, all these deer in this forest. All the beasts are enchanted by the Divine Name and they are kissing each other. They forgot their enmity. They consider: "We are all brothers."

If we repeat namam can you able to destroy your enmity? Enmity in you? No. If not how can you get the result of repeating namam? If you can purify your heart then you will have no difference between man and man, and between father and a son, between husband and wife, between brothers and brothers. No. Unity. There will be unity.

Now different types of animals – they come together. But we are human beings. Being human beings we cannot come together. We cannot understand each other. We cannot have the friendship to all of them. And this can be achieved through Nama-sankirtan. When my heart becomes pure from malice, from anger, from passion. All the dirty qualities are free - we are free from all the dusty qualities which will take us to hell. Though we repeat namam we will go to hell.

There is a hell. Which is you go? Hell and heaven. After death if we go to heaven we enjoy. And after death if we go to hell, we suffer. Suffer the punishment. They will kick you. They will throw you in the flames. And the serpents, venomous serpents come and bite you. And hot rod - you will be forced to embrace the hot rod. Then you have to embrace it and you will be suffering. You will never die but suffer. It is told. You have not seen the pictures, pictures of suffering.

Now if we repeat namam we will be free from suffering. We will enjoy happiness - real happiness.

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

That should be repeated often and often. It is the method adopted by our scriptures that in Kali-yuga everybody should adopt this easiest method and repeat namam. He must offer his food to the Lord. He must give up all sorts of drinking. Not water drinking but alcohol. Any alcohol should not be used. Not necessary. And we must take only vegetable food. We should be vegetarians. Then only our repeating namam will get any result. If not you will get no result.

Because if we eat fish or mutton we cannot offer to the Lord. No religion will tell you to eat mutton, to kill animals, even in Christianity there is a commandment, there is one commandment that animal killing is prohibited. Nobody should kill animals.

And now if we follow strictly the rules and regulations and repeat namam we will come to a sublime stage. In this human body only we can realize it: where we are, where we were. Now one who repeats namam continuously without committing any offence. All these offences only can be wiped out if we continuously, incessantly, always day and night we repeat. The tongue has no work. The hands have work. The legs work. The tongue has no work. You can do work with hands. And the tongue - it has no work. It can repeat namam.

And by repeating namam you control the mind. Mind is our friend. Mind is our enemy. Everybody has a mind. Now the mind is my enemy. If my mind says that I go to that cinema. You will go. And there you will see. And you will see a picture. Your mind will be disturbed. Then when you come home after seeing the pictures you will feel: "Why did I go there?” Loss of sleep. Loss of money. Nothing to learn. You see the pictures. So many pictures, naked pictures, wall pictures. So what is the benefit you will get by seeing that? We are beast, now you are a human beast. Those pictures are not for beasts, dogs and cats. It is for you. This will take you to hell. So without seeing this; such naked pictures, vulgar pictures, you should see the picture of the Lord Krishna. Beautiful Lord Krishna singing with Murali flute and Vrindavan, like under a tree he was singing. And all the beasts, all the birds - they come together to see Krishna. They are all attracted by the sound Krishna.

Krishna is attractive like a magnet, a magnet which attracts the iron. Though iron is placed at a distance of magnet the volume of magnet according to its power it will act. It will drag it - forcefully it will drag it. And that iron piece will come closer to the magnet.

Like that we should see that our mind is being attracted by the Lord. If we repeat the namam, our mind will never do anything wrong. And doing wrong and repenting after it - it is only waste of time. But if we repeat namam, the result will be that my mind will be attracted by the Lord. Though I step to harm others, though I step to speak lie, though I step forward to do anything ungodly or immorally, it is not moral, and then the Lord will guide my mind and I will never do that. So we must reach.

Always repeat namam. In that namam we must have strong faith. We must surrender.

"O Lord! You are my father, you are my brother, you are my wealth, you are my sister, you are my house, you are everything. I have surrendered everything to you - my body, my mind, my intellect, and every sense of my body I have offered to you."

Then the Lord will dominate on my body. Then it is according to the dictation of the Lord. My movements will be controlled by the God. Then I will be happy.

So without God-realization, without anything we do with God-realization, that will fetch us no help, no good result. We will be simply misusing our wealth, misusing our time or misusing our health. Always we must repeat the namam

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

Regarding this science we have got very good book published, "The Divine Name," that is also going to be translated into your language. He will translate it. And another, the life of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Chaitanya Bhagavat. These are the most important books you can hear. It is written in English. And this is also in English. At present in English and after some time our prabhuji will translate it into your Croatian language.

And we are very happy that all of you could pay interest, sit under a tree like Krishna. Krishna was sitting under a tree. The boys - they were playing. They would bring breakfast from their houses, boys. And they ask Krishna to sit in the centre. Thousands of boys - they sit all-around. And there they eat their breakfast, but they thrust their cake, thrust their roti and they give it to Krishna. "Krishna you take. How is it?" It is the affection. It is the love.

But we can have that and we can have Krishna in our midst and we can give him, and Krishna will bless us. And the boys when they play, they don't want any remuneration, anything in return. They always play. That is called prema. That is called prema which we could know by seriously and without any offence - we repeat the namam, incessantly we repeat the namam - then we can understand the prema.

Prema cannot be explained. It cannot be explained. It must be understood. When you feel by repeating namam - that namam only takes you to that place. That place wherefrom your heart will be changed. Your views will be changed. You will be changed. In this life only.

Now you will think that everything is Krishna's grace. Krishna is everywhere. He should bless us. We must recognize Krishna. We must know Krishna. To know Krishna, to serve Krishna we have taken this human body.

And you can say then: "Should we give up our enjoyments?" No. Those enjoyments though you give them up, but they never leave you. Why? In every life you enjoy. When you have taken human life or a beast life, there also you enjoy. You have to sleep, you have to sex and you have to fear and you have to eat and drink - ever, so nothing is lost. If you now give up that and do the service of the Lord and repeat his name then you will never become a beast or a dog or a cat.

You must become a devotee. And you must pray with the Lord. With the Lord you should pray. So Lord is my master. He is my father. He is my mother. Mata, bhrata, pita, maha. He is grandfather.

If I can realize that then I will be happy.
